Computer Shut Down During Game - Will Not Boot

Gigabyte motherboard Z170X G1, 6700k, 32GB DDR4, RX 480 Crossfired, 660W 80+ Platnium PSU.

So I'm in the middle of playing Civilization VI and the computer just shuts off - never happened to me before. When I went to turn back on the computer, everything lights up for a few seconds, then turns off. Only the power switch, motherboard light, and the LED ram modules remain lit.

I did change out my Fury X for 2x RX 480's today but was playing 2-3 hours of BF1 before with zero issues.

I took out one of the RX 480's and the computer will light up for a second, but then die - same as with both installed.

What could be going on here?

660W 80+ Platinum is not enough information. Please list the make and model. How long have you had the power supply?

What could be going on here?
1) Your machine is overheating
2) You have damaged component(s)
3) You have a hardware conflict
4) You have a corrupt BIOS (this is rather rare with newer systems)

The board does not cool power delivery systems very well on its own. There are G1/4" threaded hookups for water cooling to power delivery systems. This is the white and red assembly that wraps around the top left of the socket. If you did not hook up liquid cooling, your MOSFETs are overheating. The board would then shut itself down to protect them from melting.

Very good power supply. I highly doubt it's the problem here.

That is the correct board.

What is interesting to me is that I've had hours upon hours worth of gameplay in the past weeks, and never had an issue - then all of a sudden, the computer crashed.

Is the aforementioned white and red cooler hooked up to water cooling? This is the white and red assembly that wraps around the left and top of the socket.

It is not. Only the CPU is water cooled with the H100i.

This needs to be hooked up for the board to function correctly. Were you aware of this when you bought the board?

Do you have the means to provide G1/4" fittings and a water cooling system to this part of the board? If you want, you could even just get a bigger CPU cooler and include it in the loop. Do note that you would need a cooler than can be disassembled in order to put both of them on the same loop, an AiO will not fit the bill here.

If you cannot do this or have no idea of how to set up a custom water cooling system, I would recommend getting a different board. Hopefully this one isn't damaged yet and may still work for someone else who hooks it up properly.

Just wanted to drop a line. I returned the problematic motherboard, and I got a Gigabyte Z170X gaming 5.
