I7 4770k too high temperature on certain pc start.

Dear community,

Recently I've a huge problem with my CPU temperatures.

Somehow I start my pc with crazy temperatures that will start at 60C. After a few seconds on loading programs etc. it will reach 100C and lowers the overall pc performance. And it will stay at such high temperatures!
Now the most strange thing is that this all depends on the start. Most of the times it starts the pc with these high temps and wont lower at all. So I keep hard resetting my pc (pressing down the on/off button until it completely shuts off. I do this because if I shut down the pc with windows it will take hours due to the high temps and downclocking everything) untill I hit a restart that will put my cpu temp to normal temps. This is around 30C in idle. And it will stay that way in normal temps during the whole time my pc is on.

So my question would be:
- What can cause these kind of problems (bug?)
- How can I fix this so I don't have to wait for a lucky pc start?

Solution
1. check that your cooler is mounted correctly
2. check that the pump is working - check the RPM reading from the header you connected the CPU block to. or place your hand on the CPU block, you are supposed to feel vibration.
3. check with other cooler - maybe there is too much air or the flow obstructed by dirt/bend
4. reset the MB bios if above has not revealed the problem

I wouldnt have thought it was a hardware error if it works every few restarts (it could be but i would think it wouldnt work at all). Sounds more like corrupted cooler drivers not managing the temps properly to me. @OP do you have any drivers installed for the cooler? if so try doing a clean install of them.

^those coolers (without USB cables) do not have any drivers. They might ship with some software that helps to fan/pump speed.
But since they (pump/fan) connect to a regular fan headers on MB, they can be controlled with anything from bios to any fan speed controlling SW.

Ahh my bad, i dont have experience with that make of cooler, the Corsair liquid coolers have drivers for the pump so i was making a suggestion based on that. Thanks for clearing it up :)
