Can I put an i7 in a server mother board

I am planing on getting a i7-6800k witch is socket 2011-3
and i am planing on getting the asus Z10PA-D8 witch has 2 2011-3 sockets

I am wondering will those work together?

Yes, you can use either an i7 or a Xeon. The Xeon will allow for more RAM (if you need it), but the i7s are usually cheaper. There are more Xeon models to choose from to tailor to your need, but nothing wrong with using an i7.


EDIT: In looking at that motherboard's specs, it doesn't officially support i7s...although I would bet it would work, it may not be worth the risk. Might be best to stick to the Xeon.
