Hello, so right now i'm playing Overwatch on 1600 x 900 and im not having any trouble with overheating but as soon as i switch to 1920 x 1080 and i play for 5+ minutes on that resolution my game just start lagging really bad (it drops to like 30 FPS) and after maybe 1-2 minutes goes back to normal. I even got a cooling pad for my laptop but it doesnt seem to help much. Isn't there anything i can do about it because it kinda sucks playing on lower resolutions.

Solution
Check CPU and GPU usage, temps and clock speed, it might just be stepping down the boost clock or even thermal throtteling. If that is the case, cleaning and getting a cooling pad might be a solution. Or just switching to a system that doesn't has thermal issues. (like a better designed laptop or a desktop)
You could also try using fresh thermal paste. Thy are usually designed to last a while, but might degrade after prolonged intensive use.
Getting a "better" one than the preapplied surely doesn't hurt while you're at it.
Do you have any software to see what you're actual temps are? Could just be a good cleaning is in order with canned air in fan vents, or even applying fresh thermal compound. By running fine at lower resolutions, it should be less demanding on your GPU, resulting in lower temps.
