Solution
The speed of the data is controlled by the port not the cable. Cat5e will run at 1g just like cat6. You might get cat6 cheaper sometime so that is a option. Be careful to avoid CCA --copper clad aluminum-- cable. This cable has massive issue and is not certified but vendors will try to claim it is.

Looks like a 16 port switch would be optimal. Count your ports very carefully if you use 2 8 ports switches. There is a bottleneck between the switches of 1g but I suspect in your design that is not a issue.

You are still going to need some form of router. A switch can not be connected to the internet directly but you could hook the internet router to this switch to allow all devices to use it.

First off if your making your home network you don't need the prosafe version or the managed switches. They are more expensive and you had better now what you are doing when you insert it in your network. If not you will loose functionality for the computers connected to it until you figure out how to configure it. If you are wanting to run multiple lans on your network then the managed switches are the way to go. If not stay away from them.

I'm using multiple PC and AP.
wich planning upgrade to GbE.
Should I simply go with a D-Link DGS-1016D wich only cost 3,800 or go with 2 DGS-108 900+ ea.
I have some smartphones/tablets connecting wireless,
7 PC in LAN and 6 AP devices D-LINK DIR-513A.
and also what cable cat type should I use for DGS-1016D or DGS-108?
