My nephew has a large batch of video files of his football games that he wants to archive and keep. Initially he was going to get a 1TB ssd, but I told him to hold off because of the cost and that there might be better solutions out there. I'm asking him to download one game so we can get an ballpark idea of exactly how much space he is going to need. Looking at some of my 1080p video that I have, my guess is that he will need about 250G based on 40 hours of video at 1080p and 29fps.

I was looking at the WD My Book Duo(https://www.wdc.com/products/external-storage/my-book-duo.html#WDBLWE0040JCH-NESN) configured to use mirroring(RAID 1), but would like to throw it out there to find out if anyone has any additional ideas. The main priority is keeping the data safe and backed up with an eye towards long term, and the lesser priority is performance. Ideas, thoughts?

I think it's good price being USB3 and almost as fast as eSATA models. I would just ask manufaturer if it has 2 x 2TB or 2 x4TB disks. If it's RAID! (mirroring ) and 2 x 4TB that's in actuality only somewhat less then 4TB of usable storage.
