So my CPU temp goes up to the high 90's as soon as I start a big like assassin creed unity.. or any other heavy games like that.. I also get some kind of stutters when it goes that high.. It wasn't always like that I'm not sure whats happening..

My cpu is intel 4790k
gpu gtx 1080
ram 16gb

when not running games cpu temp is at 50~, as soon as I try to load assassins creed unity as exemple it goes up to 90 in matter of few seconds

Solution
It hard to apply to litte, and when you put too much, it actualy hinders thermal transfer. Just a little dot in the center. Put the plate of the CPU coooler on it and swivle it a bit to start spreading it around. when you tighten the cooler to the board, the little dot will spread out over the die. The heat from the CPU will further spread it. When you put too much, it might escape over the sides and create a mess. The resaon you need so little is becuae the CPU die and the heat plate on the cooler are not perfectly flat, there will be little air pocket in the semall dents/ scratches in each, even if we can't see them. The paste fills in these gaps and condcts heat better than air, but worse than mental. If you coat the entire thing in...

If everything is stock; as in you're not overclocking, more than likely there is poor contact between your CPU and the heat-sink. Either the paste was not applied properly, the CPU cooler is not tightened down properly, or the cooler is bent.

It's also possible the CPU heatspreader itself is damaged. Unlikely though.

Ive been playing alot with the inside of my computer so dust is most likely not a problem as I cleaned most of it everytime I opened the case.. as for the past the current one I have on is I think like 2 years or 3 years old.. maybe that's the problem.. but would that really explain the CPU going from 50 degrees to 90+ in a matter of seconds ? Literrally 4 or 5 seconds?

Also when I launch unity my cpu usage is only at ~30%

As for the moment I took my old cpu & cpu fan cooler.. scooped the minimal paste on them to put on my current ones LOL.. seems to be doing the job while I get some new paste on the way..

Thermal paste dries up over time and loses its constructiveness. I'd try that. Also, CPU temp jumps like that are not unheard of. When I run benchmarks, because I have the stock cooler, I go from ambient to making pasta with my CPU in a few seconds. Maybe you could get a cooler like the Cyroig H7 too.

I just ordered a new fan for the back chassis of my case, a cpu fan with two heat tubes or whatever it was called and new silver something cpu thermal paste.. I think this should do the job

And actually thinking about it, when I just checked the thermal paste on my cpu and all I realised one of the cooler's pins weren't properly inserted into the motherboard so maybe there wasn't enough contact between the cpu cooler paste and the cpu ?

And when I get to put new paste, how much should I put ?

How much paste should I put though ? Like all accross the plate ? and how thick ? 1mm ? 2mm ?

Okay thank you, will do that!
