Background: I need a Home Network and live in a remote location...only internet connection option is cell. I use about 150Gb of data/month and have more than 10 connections required for all family needs.

I currently connect my grandfathered unlimited data plan (UDP) LTE phone (Verizon-Android) to a Wifi to Ethernet Adapter (NetGear N600). Then N600 Ethernet out port to a NetGear AC1900 DST Router, internet in. This works when it works but can't help but think I'm going about this the wrong way. Problem is that any hiccup between phone and adapter, and internet goes down. I'm constantly resetting the phone mobile hotspot and adapter.

I'd love to use a Cradlepoint MRB95 router with Verizon 551L USB Modem (switching my SIM) w/external antenna, but am VERY concerned with Verizon canceling my UDP if they take issue that the modem is not "Compatible" with my "Service."

Ultimately, I need to use my LTE phone as a modem and reliably interface to a router solution.

Verizon will take every chance they can get to kill that unlimited plan. They went after a bunch of people who tried to sell these plans to other people. They also send letter out to a bunch of people using what they considered excessive amounts and said they were going to cancel them...not sure how they can do that but they sent the letters out. This only happened a couple months ago so it is still not clear what is actually going on.

Pretty much you have to read your contract extremely careful and never give verizon a reason to try to change it. This is similar to the ATT one that you can never move off a iphone. Since you are going to have to get verizon help to move to any different hardware I would avoid that.

Mostly the problem is the phone just does not have the power to act as a router. A phone with a more powerful CPU may help....but which phones will verizon allow you to use. They canceled a bunch of people that were using a particular router for violation of the grandfathered plan.

The only reason verizon can not just kill the grandfathered plans outright is because of restriction they had to agree to when they got the radio bands in the first auction. They have tried to get congress to change this and have showed how much a small number of users is costing them. So far they have been unsuccessful but they will keep trying.
