So there is a really good deal on a samsung 850 evo 500gb so im decinding on getting it. Currently i have a seagate 1tb hdd. Im just confused on how i would get my os from my hdd to my ssd. I know how to transfer games and programs just not the os. Thanks

Solution
Yes You can.
But remember that Your Windows OEM account is hooked up to the computers h/w
If You have a Windows 10 Pro - no problem

If You have a Windows upgrade from previous Windows 7,8 - just activate from within.

How much total used space is on the current C drive?
How much of that is Doc/Music/Funny cat videos?
How much of that is Steam games?
Do you have another drive in the system, either internal or USB external?

That 600GB of games is an issue.
For a successful cloning operation, the total used space must be below the SSD size.
For a 500GB, the actual used space needs to be below 400-425GB.

The Samsung Data Migration lets you leave off stuff like music and vids. But not games.
We'd need somewhere to temporarily put that 600GB of games, or resign yourself to downloading them again.

Yes. I totally agree.

Best regards from Sweden:)

Im fine with deleting my games then redownloading them again if that will make it easier...

I use the samsung data migration and a apricorn I had laying around. I'm shocked this deal wasn't on Tom's best deals for Friday. Since this ssd is the number 1 sold at Amazon vs all other ssd's combined.

If that's what I wanted to do then I would just do a clean install on the ssd. Then transfer other files to your 1tb hard drive. No sense of being picky because we all know something always goes wrong with the registries and what not. Don't take any chances for errors in the future. Clean install.

You can't do "just the OS".
