Ok so I'm building my first PC and I put the IO shield (the right position) and the motherboard. But the motherboard isn't lining up with the little screws which they're supposed to be mounted on!! (They came pre-installed on this case which is the Phanteks Eclipse P400) and it's barely lining up I have to push on the motherboard hard towards the IO shield (which is padded) and it barely lines up. There are 7 screws I will need to screw in. The motherboard is the Gigabyte 7170X gaming 6

Having to push the motherboard tightly to the I/O shield is fairly common. That case may require the standoffs be moved (or removed). The easy ones to verify are the ones against the back of the case (I/O shield side). The next easy ones to verify are the front of the case. Then there are 2 to 4 in the middle of the board that you need to verify. You want to make sure you have standoffs for every screw hole in the motherboard BUT no others. Having a standoff in the middle of the circuit traces on the bottom of the board is a bad thing.
