hello, was wanting to take advantage of all the sales going on today, to finally upgrade my graphics card to something more (a lot) better.
MY CPU is a AMD fx 4130 quad-core
Ram is 8GB
and i guess my motherboard would be an MSI with system model "MS-7641"
I was hoping to upgrade from a *GeForce GT610*, and i was wondering if i would be compatible with a EVGA GeForce GTX 950?
If so, would i need anything extra so it connects right and everything?
Thank you for reading, and any help or expertise would be appreciated!
-sidenote that this is one of those Cyberpower Pc's, that was bought through walmart as a "gaming pc". not much of one right now.-

Also, im running windows 10 :)

Determining whether or not your power supply is sufficient enough and of high enough quality to run a gaming GPU is perhaps the most important step in buying a new GPU. You'll want to be certain that you have enough power to run the card in your system without issue.

A GTX 950 is a nice choice, it requires at least a 350W power supply with a 6-pin PCIE power connector.

On the other hand, there are similar GPUs such as the GTX 1050 that don't require the PCIE power connector and only require a 300W power supply. The RX 460 should be similar if not the same in power requirements.

Find out what power supply you have and post it here.

well, my power supply is "ATX-TL500W-BK", so looks like the wattage is there, but im unsure about the pin count, because I dont see a 6-pin anywhere, and i'm not seeing any connection going from the power supply, directly to the GPU.
Would i need a whole new power supply for the connector i need?

I would not recommend a 1060 with your power supply. The power supply is very low quality.
In fact, after reading this post and watching this video, I'll tell you now that you might want to invest in a good quality power supply either way.
Here is a tier list of power supplies according to quality:
Tier 3 and up should be okay for your system.
Yes, PCIe 3.0 x16 graphics cards are backward compatible with PCIe 2.0 x16 motherboards.

so i have a PCIe 2.0 x16 motherboard?
okay cool deal, i'll find a top notch PSU in my price range. i can't wait to get started! you've been a huge huge help for me!!

While I don't see that specific power supply on the tier list, Thermaltake is a reliable brand and it is Gold certified so it should be safe and reliable for a GTX 1060 or higher.

Also, I'd like to mention that the GTX 1060 will be severely bottlenecked by your FX 4130 CPU and will not see performance that the GTX 1060 is capable of. If you want to get the 1060, you should also look in to upgrading your CPU.

yeah, i was reading that just earlier. i'm gonna get a new CPU at some point soon too. i'd hate to go this far and have something holding it back haha.

thanks for the heads up!
I may as well ask, what do you think would be a suitable CPU for my motherboard and everything else i have picked out so far? Is it recommended that i stay within the FX series processors?
