Hi guys
My friend brought in this Q9550 2.83GHz Cpu and it has a locked multiplier
how can i overclock this???

Motherboard:HP 2820h
5GB DDR2 RAM
GTX 980 4GB

I saw a few threads saying that even though the multiplier is locked it can be Overclocked

Solution
Use cpuz to look up your chispet. Select it in setfsb. If it's not there, you can't use it.

If it is there, raise fsb to oc. I hope you at least know basics of oc. If not you need to read some oc guides for core 2 quad. Even if you can't do what's in the guides, it'll explain what's going on.
Fsb ocing is perfectly safe for beginners. Back then, it was more common because most people didn't get the top end extreme cpus and it will get the same speeds as using the multi. It's just not the easy ocing of today's cpus since there's more involved.

Since this is a prebuilt, the settings are probably locked and hidden. There are some software that might be able to like setfsb but you are much more limited in what you can do.
