no idea going to have a chat with them prob Monday but that does seem odd to you right? I mean we don't use a phone at we don't even have a modem just a fiber line

Need to figure out if its fiber to the home or fiber to the node. If it's fiber to the node then the optic cable would be connected to an exchange (node), close by near your street somewhere and from there copper wire is used, typically phone cable.

We have fiber to the home and its a box on the premises the cable runs to then inside to the house using network cabling.

Not as good as fiber to the home but that short run of copper wire will still see you have decent enough speeds just don't except it to be as fast as before.

My mothers internet has a similar strange restriction. Even though she actually has fiber all the way to the house. There is some strange box they use to provide phone that is connected to the fiber termination but I did not take it apart to see what was inside. The internet connects to a different port on the fiber termination box via ethernet.

Pretty much after talking to them for a while there is no technical reason for the restriction and when they say phone line they actually mean the box they install connected to the fiber. After going though many people that said you have to have a phone line what they really meant is you had to pay for a phone connection even if you did not use it to get the fiber connected internet.
