Hey guys, first post on here. So I've bought all parts for my new computer except the SSD which I already had and the PSU which I believed was going to be good enough.

The PSU is a Cooler Master Extreme 2 725w, it is quite old but since it's 725w and never was faulty in my previous rig so I assumed it'd be plenty.

I couldnt get the new rig to boot and I eventually cornered the problem down to the GPU (Gtx 1070 MSI x), when it's in the LEDs on it do light up and the fans start for a few seconds, and then they stop and I get no display, no beep and no boot. Once i took the GPU out I was actually able to boot the cpu with the integrated graphics. So my question is : Is this PSU too old and obsolete ?

RIG :
i7-6700k
GTX1070
MSI z170a-Pro mobo
2x8gb Corsair vengeance 3000mhz ddr4
Kingston HyperX 240gb

I'm 99% sure the GPU is not faulty, I saw it working at full capacity in another rig a week ago.

What do you guys think ? Is the PSU not powering the GTX1070 enough even though its showing me lit leds on the card ? It actually does not have the 8-pin PCI that the card requires, so I tried with its 6+2 pin and even with a converter 6-to-8. No result.

P.S: I'm not really well versed in the departement of PSUs, i dont know much about the specs of them besides the watts. So here's the PSU in question if you more tech-savvy gentlemen want to have a look at it : http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/extreme2/extreme2-725/

I would not trust that PSU in your rig. I have seen some really bad reviews and quotes such as "Another low end CM unit that sucks hard enough to make my vacuum cleaner jealous. Nasty trick (that they're not alone in using) to use a number and a W as a model number.. No APFC, goes out of spec 70w below the listed maximum power output, 70% efficiency... "

And Quote "What you have is a poor, misleadingly labeled, non-PFC PSU that should not be used in a computer." That would be enough for me and taken from jonnyguru site.

The PSU is the Life blood of your system and should not be underestimated. Get your self a decent unit.
A Gold certified unit of the same Wattage. EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair, Antec are good quality and efficient PSUs.

If i am you, i be raither throw this in garbage then placed on my new rig, take some extra cash and u will buy great psu for 80$ that can be used and for overclocking and for standard gaming, with less noise.

If u want great PSU for this money get this:
EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($82.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $82.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Slightly above 80% efficency but It's the clear winner. Really good PSU made by Super Flower.
