HDD health warning "Caution"

Hello. I have a spare HDD that I want to use. It is an old Hitachi 320GB 5400rpm Sata II HDD.
CrystalDiskInfo gives me a "Caution" warning on it. It says it on the Reallocated sectors count. It also gave me caution on current pending sector count (C5), but after a fresh format of the drive it doesn't say that anymore. When I go to Threshold of Caution window and change Reallocated sectors count slider from "1" to "0" or anything else it then says there is no problem.

-So what does the threshold of caution window do?

Other than that Windows and ASC says that there is no problem with the drive.

-What should I do to check if the drive is healthy?

IMO your disk is on borrowed time. Do not trust that disk. It has crap performance and known issues. Why would you trust any of your data on it?

Hi Toilips,

It really seems that there may be a problem with your hard drive. Testing it before usage was a good idea. Have in mind that sometimes formatting, low level formatting or defragmenting a drive may affect the number of reallocated sectors, but all depends on the condition of the drive or the used software. What are you planning to use the drive for? I would strongly recommend you to keep a backup of all data stored on that drive and to keep monitoring the drive’s condition. It is absolutely true that the drive is not 100% reliable, but if you currently have no other drive, there are no performance issues, you constantly backup all data and the condition does not change you may use the drive for some time.
If you see that the condition changes and the number of bad sectors raises you should change the drive with a new one.
