32 vs 64 bit boost

I have an opportunity to change the windows 7 system on my 4gb ram Lenovo x200 from 32 bit to 64bit.

The reason I am thinking of doing it is that a music application Ableton Live is allowing music project to grow up to 1gb only. What I would expect as a result of the system change is to be able to make projects at least twice as big. Is that a feasible outcome given the total ram being 4gb?

You don't have 4GB, you only have a little more than 3GB total. Probably because you have memory allocated to the display hardware. You have approximately 1.5GB available for your application. You need better hardware that can support more than 4GB RAM not a different OS.

Hi

Yes, I have referred to this page specifically. The thing is that what it says about the max project size in 32 bit environment I have found inaccurate, ie.

"The 32-bit version of Live (like all 32-bit applications) can use up to 4GB of RAM"

Like I wrote before,
1. 1gb project crashes Live - it has done so on three computers I have had
2. I am not going to buy ram, and do not expect from the 64 bit more than 2 gb max for Live. This would leave 2 gb for windows plus all of the small number of stuff that is installed.
