I originally decide VIII Hero/WS. Look at GB Z170x G7, then ASRock OC Formula, try finding a case that fits the color scheme since I hate black and red. Do research into RAM speeds and benefits. Look into customer support history for each company. 10 hours later, choose the VIII Hero/WS due to the praise it receives on TomsHardware.

I think the VII hero is incredibly overpriced versus something like an ASUS Z170A, it performs the same and will overclock a cpu about the same. If I wanted a high end board I would look at a sabertooth and skip right over that ROG stuff, personally.

You're luck in the silicon lottery is generally whats going to determine how high you can overclock with a certain voltage, most Z170 motherboards will be able to hit 4.8gz assuming the cpu is capable of it without an extreme amount of voltage.

Figured that, just don't want to fry the thing. Still play some CPU bound games and I bought a MB that couldn't overclock (was new to computers). Wanted to do the exact opposite this time around.
