Maximus VIII Hero making weird clicking sounds once in a while?

Usually this only happens on boot-up or shut down, which I'm totally fine with, but recently, its begun to happen when playing games as well. Random clicks. The system is totally fine, passing all benchmarks I throw at it. I've also tested the motherboard in three different cases, so I can confirm that it is the motherboard.

Could this be some kind mechanical switching? If so, is there any way to disable it? A quick circuit analysis I did seems to be pointing at the audio doing this...

My BIOS is early 2015, could updating it solve it?

Just in case:

EVGA 850 P2 is my PSU and the Enthoo Evolv ATX is my current case.

No HDDs in my build. SSDs only. No case fans are running, only my Noctua NF-F12, which has always been quiet, my PSU (850 P2) hasn't done this on two other motherboards. I mean, I could deal with it. I'm planning on getting a Z270 Hero or Strix once they are out, and hopefully this will not be an issue on them. I will try a BIOS update tomorrow morning. Heck, my old Maximus VII Hero only ever did this on shut down.

If I do switch, my 6700K and RAM will have gone through three total motherboards. A little annoying, to be quite honest.

Unfortunately, I don't have any, but I have tried different motherboards with this PSU, I either only got clicks on boot or shut down. It happening while gaming is new. It could be the PSU just suddenly decided to go bad. but I doubt it. Clicking on the VIII Hero seems to be a common issue... I just hppe the Z270 IX Hero doesn't have it, or I'm out of luck.

By chance, what PSU do you have?
