If I somehow hit 4.8 stable, is Noctua DH-15 overkill in terms of coolers? I know it's consistently winning top air cooling but I wouldn't mind somehow a little more... "attractive" as long as it can adequately cool it.

The TC 12DX? It would probably do it but if you're going for a really high overclock you want the best cooling you can get. 4.8Ghz is a high overclock for Skylake.

The best air coolers are usually the Noctua D14 / D15, the Phanteks and the Dark Rock Pro. It depends on the day they test as to which one wins.

^ Guess I should have added I have one and it keeps my 6700K at 4.6ghz and 1.35v below 70C unless I run Prime 95 small FFTs and Intel Burn Test at the same time. Running both one or two cores will hit 71 -72C. The rest stay in the upper 60s.

Yeah, when I see 3 degree temperatures, it never tells me about the ambient temps when they were tested. I think Ill go with DR Pro, that Phantek, or Cryo R1. I'd love to go with Noctua, but brown/tan and beige creates some sort of deep anger within.

Mounted in my system if you're interested.

I used aftermarket Corsair AF fans. You can see one of the stock fans in the internal mount in my case.
