OS does not see my new Plextor M8Pe M.2 SSD

Hi everyone. I'm having an issue installing Windows 7 on my new Plextor M.2 SSD. I followed the instructions in the MB user guide and set the UEFI bios to RAID but still the OS does not see the Plextor. This is getting a little frustrating. Anyone had this situation before? Any options? Thanks in advance.

MB: Asus Z170 - P D3
SSD: Plextor M8Pe M.2 512gb SSD (NVMe)

Also, the MB user guide describes the M.2 as NGFF. Is there a compatibility issue between NGFF and NVMe? I don't recall seeing any when I researched the Plextor. There appears to be an alphabet soup of acronisms with these SSD.

Hi, I'm trying to install a new Plextor M.2 SSD but I'm having problems. Upon inserting the OS disc I come to a point where Im suppose to choose where to install the OS. In this case the OS does not see my hard drive. We went into the UEFI and set it to RAID but I'm still having issues. Anyone has any idea as to what is wrong here? One more detail, the mb user guide refers to the M.2 as an NGFF drive while the Plextor shows it is a NVMe. Is this a problem? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

not familiar with your motherboard but on mine i set the bios to ahci not raid for m2 drives

not sure why yours says raid unless its using 2 sata express ports up to get the bandwidth

for windows 7 you are going to need to install the driver during set up of windows before it will see an m2 i think

I heard that from another post. I'm going back and changing from RAID to AHCI. How do I install a driver when the OS is not working yet? I'm not sure I understood that part well. The drivers for the SSD?

havent had to install a driver during set up in years

but used to be a point where it said press f6 if you need to install a driver

I heard the same thing from a friend locally. I'm thinking of downloading the driver into a flash drive to make sure there are no hung ups. Thanks a lot. Appreciated.

Well, it turned out I was trying to use a PCIe based M.2 in the mb slot of a M.2 2280 ssd. Its very easy to confuse the two of them.

yes i love m2 but its still very confusing to most people

as got sata,pci-e,nvme

not to mention whether your motherboard m2 slot even if its pci-e has to be x4 not x2 to max out the pci-e m2 card

I returned the Plextor. Newegg was good enough to take it back a mth later. It was an honest mistake. I'm in the process of either getting the new EVO with 3D or perhabs go PCIe M.2. That is a more expensive proposition but it is a faster setup and i'm a fool for speed. I'll post my final decision later this week.
