Hey guys n gals ,

Helping out a friend fix their pc but i can't seem to get the BIOS to detect the HD. at first i swaped sata cables (since it detected the CD drive) and i swapped around ports. I assumed it was the HD. But after installing a new one...it still won't work.

Hey there, @Nyxi!

I'm sorry for the late reply. You have done a great job with the swapping of ports and cables. However, the issue could also be coming from an outdated BIOS version or somehow improper functioning of the motherboard. My recommendation is to try to detect the HDDs after a BIOS reset. You can perform this by resetting the jumper on the mobo or reseating the CMOS battery. Keep in mind that this will get all the BIOS settings back to their factory default state, so you will need to re-configure all manual changes afterwards. It might also be a good idea to check if the SATA ports have been enabled through the BIOS settings and also try swapping the SATA modes (IDE to AHCI/RAID and vice versa) in hopes that the mobo will detect the SATA drives properly.

I'd also advise you to go to the mobo manufacturer's official website and check for any BIOS version updates. Might be a good idea to flash BIOS if there's a newer version available.

Hope it helps you. Keep me posted if you encounter further issues.
Good luck! :)
