Hey i have the Asrock h97m motherboard with the Realtek ALC662 audio codec and wondered if upgrading to a sound card will make me be able to hear gaming footsteps better i have AStro a40's without the mixamp

Ugh the ALC662 is rather outdated and lousy performance. Even an entry level sound card will be much better. I personally would not use anything less than a board with ALC1150 for a gaming/media rig.

People swear by these Xonars. This one has higher sound quality than the Sound Blaster.
