Hello, Im currently seeking advice on upgrades to my relatively outdated budget build that i constructed back in 2014. Im looking for a GPU that is compatible with my system specs and can handle the newer PC games relatively well. Now i understand that CPU and Ram will have a big impact on the quality, but for now im just looking for a GPU. My current System specs are: CPU AMD Fx 6300. GPU Radeon 7700 1GB. A loud gpu cooler that will also need to be replaced (Advice?) . PSU 450 watts, will change that as well. Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2. Ram 8GB. Budget is around 200 and change. Thanks again!

Yes, GTX and AMD cards can be interchangeable between both AMD and Intel based systems and the power rating that comes on the box for the GPUs are what the manufacturer recommends for the entire system not just the GPU itself. So, you should be fine.

If you want to know roughly what your system will use power wise, you can put in all of your parts into the PcPartPicker.com system build. In the top right of that page it will give you the rough amount of maximum watts your system should ever draw (this does not include any type...

Even though I agree that going with at least the FX CPUs would be best, I believe your GPU to be the biggest need for better gaming. PSU, depending on quality can be left alone for now and your DRAM is fine. For a GPU budget of about $200, you might want to look into an EVGA 1060 going for about $220; however, a 1050ti would also be a decent upgrade if you are coming from a 7750. Sorry, I assumed 7750 was the model since there are like three different types of cards within the 77xx series of GPUs. The 1060 would be a large upgrade from the 7750 btw.

Here is the Amazon link to the 1060 I found.

It is either the 7750 or 7770. Each time i checked, whether through 'dxdiag' or Device management it just tells me its the 7700 series. The 1060 or 1050ti would be compatible with my rig and 450 watt PSU?

If you want to know roughly what your system will use power wise, you can put in all of your parts into the PcPartPicker.com system build. In the top right of that page it will give you the rough amount of maximum watts your system should ever draw (this does not include any type of overclocking).

I personally go for a PSU that is rated a couple hundred watts more than what I need, just in case I want to expand or overclock. However, keep in mind that if you system is close to the max output of the PSU, there is a chance that your system could become unstable. Just as if you push anything too far or really close to its max. Having a certain amount of wattage headroom acts as a buffer. Plus, if you only draw about 350 watts for example, having a 500 or 650 watt PSU will be able to handle that load easier and with less heat/noise (fans can ramp up like crazy if near max load) than a 350 or 450 watt PSU can. There will be those that disagree, but I don't like to take any type of chance on reliability.
