I just bought a bunch of new upgrades for my computer recently due to a psu failure taking out my motherboard. With the new psu and board hooked up along with the graphics card and cpu, it powers up without issue. Once I run the SATA cable from the new psu to the hard drive or the optical drive its powers on for a split second and then turns off. If I unplug the SATA cable, sometimes it will go ahead and power on. I thought it might be a hdd problem, but i just went and bought a new hdd today and it does the same thing. Seems to be an issue with the SATA power cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been messing with this for 3 days. System specs below

Msi z97s sli least edition motherboard

Evga gtx660 graphics card

Evga 750 gq psu

Intel i7 4790k processor

I'd try a BIOS update as a shot in the dark, but your PSU may have an amperage issue. May wanna RMA it. Its amp draw that hits when trying to power everything up.

What if you pull your GPU out, connect your hard drives, and try powering up using the on-board video connector? Curious if it powers up then. Regardless, I'd start with a PSU RMA.

So I tried unplugging the graphics card from the psu and plugged the SATA power in to the hard drive and it booted up. Something odd occured though, and that's that the SATA cord began to heat up incredibly fast. So much so that i shut my computer down in haste because I was afraid it was going to melt. No other cords got hot.
