Should I bother upgrading from an FX8350 to an i5 6600?

For a while I've considered upgrading my PC. The FX series isn't particularly good at single threaded operations, and does fall behind intel in gaming ( practically all I use my rig for now ).

Would it be worth buying a new motherboard/ram/cpu, i feel like if I didn't have to replace the ram I'd be a little more complaint, as I'm currently running 16Gb of 1600Mhz DDR3 with an 8350.

Depends on the title. The i5's cores are around twice as powerful, and the FX has a module penalty, but total throughput of an OC'd FX-8350 is 80-90% as good as the i5's.

In games that are well-threaded like Battlefield and GTA, the FX performs as you'd expect, at around 80-90% of an i5. In other games that are poorly threaded such as Arma, Guild Wars, Skyrim with mods, that sort of thing, an i5 will have double the frames of an FX.

That's honestly a pretty huge jump. Do you have any idea how that would equate in terms of FPS/stableFPS ?

Yeah your references to Skyrim and Guild Wars were certainly titles I was curious about Ecky. I suppose in one respect making the move to DDR4 now would save me the hassle in the future. Thanks for the replies you two, I appreciate the input :)
