Hey guys. I bought an NZXT HUE+ kit and it comes with a two pin (red and black) molex adapter. I seriously hate these things because as always, when I try and connect it to my PSU, the pins get pushed out thus coming out of the plastic sheeth.

Is it dangerous to not use the plastic connector? No matter what I do, I can't force these cheap pins into my molex PSU cord without them pushing out of the adapter.

Solution
i have a nzxt hue+

the leds are fantastic

with those molex connectors its just a case of put them together-- if the pins dont go in dont brute force them

just wiggle the male one (on the hue+) until the pins line up to the holes
hypothetically one could take out the PSU, and solder directly off the wires to the molex connector. but that would be totally at the risk of the PSU and system if the person doing that work messes up. if you hit it with electrical tape it is just as safe afterwards. how were you planning to connect without the plastic connector?

@mcnumpty, can you do me a huge favor? Can you tell me if the hue+ kit turns on without being attached to the motherboard's USB?

I broke the USB mini end to USB 2.0 header and even though the hue has a connection to the PSU, the light on the unit doesn't light up.

I'm concerned I fried it.

Can you tell me if it gets power when it's connected to the PSU but not the MoBo ?

trying now but cant find the option in the new version of cam to turn the unit light on and off mine is off even though its all

connected and working if thats any help

but bear with me if can find the option to turn the light on will then disconnect the usb to see if light goes off again

Yeah, essentially I just want to see if the unit's white LED will turn on if not connected to the MoBo, you should see it as soon as you boot the PC.

I only ask because if it DOES turn on then I've got a broken unit, if it DOESNT turn on, I've simply have to replace the USB 2.0 header

As in the actual LED on the unit NOT THE ACTUAL LED STRIPS

Does not turn on when connect to PSU but NOT MoBo.

PLEASE don't think I'm talking to you like a child, I just want to be clear before I either RMA or search for a header cord.

You're the boss for helping me out btw.
