I am looking to set up a second router in my house to: get better WiFi coverage in the back of my house since the first router's WiFi does not do well back there, and have Ethernet access for the two computers back there. I want to connect the routers through an Ethernet cable run through the attic as detailed here. My first router, which I am not looking to replace, is a Linksys EA6350. I am wondering if I should get the same one so they are consistent, or if that would create problems, or if there is a particular router recommended for a two router setup. Thanks.

What you technical want is called a AP. You can use a router that has a AP feature or you can cable it to the lan ports, change ip, and disable the dhcp to make any router be a AP.

When you run the router as a AP you are bypassing a large part of the device and many feature do not function. Things like vpn or firewall and other features than are not used on a AP. Do not spend a lot of money for fancy features. All that really matters is that it has the radio bands you want.

It does not have to match you main router any brand or model will be compatible. The only tricky thing will be if you use the same ssid or different ones. Both have advantages and disadvantages. The concept of seamless roaming between the 2 devices...

The concept of seamless roaming between the 2 devices does not really exist on home routers so do not expect to do that. It will of course connect to either it just will not switch easily.
