Is my motherboard slowing me down

My rig...
Gigabyte ga-f2a78m
Kavari a10 7850k
8gb ballistix ddr3 ram
Gtx680

My old rig..
Hp xw 6400 workstation
X2 xeon e3545 2.33ghz
16gb ddr2 ram

My hp xw6400 psu broke so I built the rig above but the proformance in ganes is about the same, my question is this ...is my motherboard slowing me down? Or will more ram give me a boost?? I know my new rig is a bit budget but I expected better results to my old rig as the technology is about 8 years ahead.

..but OP should get much better performance from the new rig compared to the old one if its running properly surely. Unless u had the same GPU anyway. Maybe the RAM is making a difference?

Original Poster.. and you wont get great fps on either but I think you should see an improvement. What is maxing out in your usage stats when gaming?

The single threaded performance might be similar for the apu and the old xeon,hence the similar performance.Either that or the driver support/optimization for the apu is worse than the xeon(not too sue about this )

I have the latest gee force experience and drivers loaded up, and plugged the hdmi lead into my gtx680 lol, so pretty sure I'm not using the on board apu.

I only installed the chipset drivers that came with the mb, I'll see if I can update trough device manager.

Yeah turbo should be fine, but apart from GPU the drivers arent going to make a lot of difference. Use Speccy or Afterburner to monitor your system stats during gaming and see what if anything is maxed out (CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM etc).

On this subject can anyone please confirm that when people say they activated turbo mode do they mean ...
Core porformance boost ...
Or
Turbo performance boot ratio???

Either, but I wouldn't use both together, or use core performance boost at all if OCing

Ok thanks I would have used both!
The turbo ratio default is set to 40, I've read it's best to leave it at that, is it worth pushing it up a little? I'm not familiar with this so don't want to mess it up, thanks

Check your CPU usage first. (100MHz) x40 =4GHz is the default multiplier, and raising it is technically overclocking, which you may need to do if your CPU is running close to 100% when gaming. Did you check Afterburner after?

I'm playing quantum break now....cpu 65-75% and gpu about he same, but I'm not in the middle of a heavy action sceen yet

With turbo enabled. ..seems ok just louder as the fans are going faster

Until you reach over 90% GPU usage you can turn up the game settings, because there's room for improvement. If the game is at max settings already then it just isnt testing your system enough.

On fallout 4 I'm getting between 80-90 % on both cpu and gpu closer to 90 on the gpu on a mixture of high and ultra settings.
I think turning turbo mode on done the trick, just that little nudge of proformance that was needed.
As long as the cpu temp stay down it should be fine.

Cool. As long as you dont get say 40% usage on one while the other is up at 99% then you know there's no bottleneck anyway.
