I was playing a game on Sunday, i then turn of my computer for the night. Turn it on next morning and the game i was playing the last evening was running a 30 FPS instead of the usual buttery smooth 60 FPS.

Specs :
Cpu : amd-fx 6300
Gpu : Nvidia Geforce GTX 580
Ram : 2 x 4gb DDR3

Solution
How old is your drive? It's a possibility. With that much data too, ensure you've got a backup just incase it is your drive starting to fail.

I didn't update in between the time i recorded the first FPS and the second.

Well that's the most common issue to occur randomly, so just wanted to clarify.

Other than that, games don't lose optimization overnight. So if it's not driver/windows update related, how do your temps (CPU & GPU) look? Did something miraculously change there overnight?

How is your electricity supply in your area? Any black/brown-outs? are you connected to a surge protector?
