New gpu. System shut down. Smell burning

So i installed by new gpu. Started a game. Pc auto shut off. Took me a few to get it to turn back on. Got it to turn on now i smell something burning. Man this cant be good

I5 4690k with a h100i gtx watercooler. I think thats the name.

Msi gtx 1070.
Evga 550w supernova g2. Havnt had a problem with this psu

16gb corsair dominator. Msi gaming 5 z97 mobo.

I would sniff around to see where the smell is the strongest and see what parts around could have burnt. Based on where it is it could be the PSU or something else. The PSU you can easily test by unplugging everything and shorting the green pin to ground, and if it works then it should be fine (unless some rails are blown).

Well i think i may have figured it out. I plugged back in my usb 3.0 and that port sits right under the gpu. So maybe the plug was touching the gpu? Or maybe it was because i think the port has a bent pin and the cord couldnt make a full connection into the port so maybe that did something. idk, anyhow i unplugged that cord. And its running fine now.

Im monitoring temps while playing a game to make sure. But so far so good now
