Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade my G3258 to something with a bit more power. Unfortunately although the g3258 is running at 4.2ghz and is stable it's now starting to put me behind on new AAA releases.

I am looking for an I5 and I am guessing a 4690k would be my best pair with an MSI GTX 960 4GB. Is overclocking a must though? as in would turbo boost be good enough to use for gaming? What are my other options for a 4690k and also what are my options for a low end i7??

Any help would be appreciated

Overclocking isn't a must on a 4690K right now, but in the near future it will be. The basic requirements of games are really starting to require things like quad core.
I don't really see any i7 options that will be price effective. (start around $300 unless you are buying used).

Very impressed with what you have done with that G3258 btw :D how are you cooling it?

I simply have a huge cooler, couldn't tell you what it is as it was a pre-build from OCUK. Check out their titan dagger builds on their site.

The 4690k probably seems the best option atm i've read on a 6500 but that doesn't seem to be overclockable so i would probably be screwing myself in the long run. Why would the 4690k overclock be needed in the near future then? is it not a worthy investment or is it at the end of life?
