Same WiFi network but in different state?

Hi this might be a odd question to ask but I was wondering if there is a way for people to somehow be on the same network even though one device is in a different state using VPN or some other program.. Reason is I got this android app "My boy" which is a gameboy emulator with multiplayer capabilities BUT only if you're on the same WIFI network or close enough for bluetooth and my girlfriend is away visiting family for the holidays and we still wanted to play together. If it is possible with VPN that would be awesome.. We both have Android phones.

Unless the said game requires too much bandwidth to be able to work across the Internet, or doesn't tolerate a lag of more than a few milliseconds.

Theoretically, one can almost always fool something to make it looks like it's THERE, except bandwidth can't be fake, response time across Internet can't be faked.

Your last roadblock is time, doing this research may take more time than you have before the holiday is over! Your best bet is to ask this question at that game's specific forum, surely you are not the first who have thought of this, why re-invent the wheel? do you have time to re-invent the wheel?

I can;t seem to access many websites (on a work computer) to research this, nor is it my area of expertise by any means, but I believe you're looking for would be more akin to a Dynamic DNS than a VPN. (Similar to accessing your home network storage etc).

Not 100% sure how you'd configure it to work in this instance, but maybe this'll give you a little more to work with/research.
