I recently bought the Toshiba P300 1TB HDD and I am having a large issue with it having really low R/W speeds with max going to around 140Kb/s and around an average of 80KB/S. Weirdly, I have found a temporary but a really annoying solution where I have to uninstall the HDD every time I turn on my PC, so I have to essentially turn on my PC twice to get it working... which is just a massive pain.

So I was wondering if any of you guys/gals have any possible solution like some cmd prompt or something:??:

Cheers!

Hey there, Sand Paper.

That's pretty weird indeed. Would you give it a try with a different computer, just to see if the same thing happens? I'd also suggest that you download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test it for errors and/or bad sectors.
Having in mind that uninstalling the drive from Device Manager usually fixes things up, this could be caused by your OS and/or drivers, so I'd suggest that you make sure that all of the mobo associated drivers are up to date (chipset, USB controller, etc). You could also try updating your OS and/or BIOS, to see if the issue still persists.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Hey Boogieman, thanks for the recommendations!

I tried the HDD with another PC and it was doing the same thing, so I perceived that the HDD was faulty but I was too angry and threw the hard drive onto the floor... which fixed the problem. Gotta love how unreliable PC hardware is :fou:

If it did the same thing with a different computer, it must have really been a problem with the HDD. However, I would have assumed that it might have been a PCB issue (which I can't imagine being repaired by throwing it on the floor).
On the bright side, you did manage to "fix" it, but there's also a great chance that you might have damaged it (even if you don't currently notice anything out of the ordinary). So I'd strongly recommend that you check it up with a diagnostic tool: https://www.lifewire.com/free-hard-drive-testing-programs-2626183. This way you'll know if there's a problem with it, so that you don't use it to store important information which you can't afford to lose.
