Dual Monitor Not Working Properly

I just hooked up two monitors to my GPU. One is linked to HDMI and the other DVI. I have windows set to 'Duplicate these displays.' All that does is make it so that the same thing appears on both monitors. I want to be able to snap chrome on the left monitor + After Effects on the other one. Or split AE in half, basically. When I try 'extend these displays', I get my desktop on monitor 2, and literally Tomshardware on my primary monitor. However, I can't drag things over to monitor 2. When opening things from my taskbar on Monitor 1, I get the 'click' effect on monitor 2, but the program opens on monitor 1. I hope I'm making sense.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
If you right click your desktop and click display settings you will see two boxes labeled 1 and 2.
Simply drag 2 around to the proper side.

Windows assumes your second monitor is on the right (most are for some reason).
Well you need it set to extend, if they arent moving over make sure you have the primary monitor set properly (try dragging windows over to the other side). With windows 10 you actually need to move the window much faster to avoid the expand option when it hits the edge.,

Okay, so that worked but they are in reverse. I have to drag it to the right, even though my secondary monitor is on the left.

Awesome, thank you so much!
