Good Day,

I have a HP dv4-1430us and i'm trying to upgrade the CPU. What would be the fastest cpu i'm able to update to? So far I located HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide Document Part Number: 468133-002. However my t6500 is not listed on that service manual so i'm just trying to make sure the below are compatible.

Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.80-GHz, 6-MB L2 cache) 486727-001
● Core 2 Duo T9550 (2.66-GHz, 6-MB L2 cache) 507953-001
● Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53-GHz, 6-MB L2 cache) 483260-001
● Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53-GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 507960-001
● Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.40-GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 483259-001
● Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26-GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 483258-001
● Core 2 Duo T5900 (2.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache) 495639-001
● Core 2 Duo P7450 (2.13-GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 495640-001 or 507965-001
● Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0-GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 491856-001
● Core 2 Duo T6600 (2.2 GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 513593-001
● Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.06 GHz, 3-MB L2 cache) 513592-001

T9600 would be your best bet. Only $12 on eBay.

Hold it right there.
This is a laptop and upgrading a laptops cpu is:
1. Annoying because you need to take the whole thing apart and then reassemble it and that just takes forever
2. Getting a better cpu means that your laptop will get hotter and it could be that it's cooling can't handle it
3. The difference between the t9600 and t6500 isn't all that big actually
4. If you are going to do it get the best of the best (as long as it is no more than 20$ in total) and don't forget some new cooling paste.

Took your advice and went big. Got a T9900 of ebay. Hope it works with my system.

Might as well try it and see what happens. It's specs are in line with the t9600 just a higher clock but no additional power consumption or anything. It it doesn't work then you'll be stuck with the t6500.
