Hello. I am a novice with computers and I want to know if there's anyway to use my router to get internet access from my downstair's, bolted-to-the-wall Google Fiber Network Box. I can't keep my desktop downstairs due to lack of space. I can for a short amount of time if I have to do that to try and set up the wifi.

Maybe. Presumably, the Google router also provides wifi? Can the old router be set up as a bridge? If so, the setup may or may not be satisfactory. How many floors between upstairs and downstairs? Quite likely the intervening floors and other obstacles to wifi will make it unsatisfactory or unusable. There are just too many variable to be sure until you try it.

You've gone to the expense of having super fast internet access installed, why build in a bottle neck of using wifi equipment to get internet to a desktop computer? This is a situation that "screams" for ethernet wiring. A wiring pro can probably make the connection for not much more than the cost of the equipment you would need to buy to make a wireless system work...

This is a situation that "screams" for ethernet wiring. A wiring pro can probably make the connection for not much more than the cost of the equipment you would need to buy to make a wireless system work at the speed your ISP connection deserves. Pros can get eithernet to places you and I can't imagine wires could be run.

An alternative would be powerline network adapters. Given you have fast Google Fiber, buy the fastest adapters you can afford. Look for AV2-MIMO technology. Use the following site for suggestions and buy from a shop with a customer friendly return policy incase the setup doesn't work for you.

Good luck.
