As for your other question, just make sure that it doesn't get in the way of anything else. Basically it would be nice if you can mount it to a slot, but if not, it's not that big of a deal. Unlike HDDs, SSDs do not have any moving parts so having the SSD connected is good enough. There's no risk of damaging it because of vibrations or placing it in a weird angle.
