I have 1 WD MyBook and 2 WD external hard drives always connected to the computer. Almost every time i shut off the computer and start it up, all the external drives are undetected. If I restart the computer it will fix the issue. I checked disk management to see if the drives show up and they don't. I don't think its my usb ports either because my mouse, keyboard, and webcam still work. It seems to be only external hard drives that fail to get detected at start up.

Hey there, @Kazee97!

I'm sorry to hear about your detection issues with the WD External hard drives. You mentioned that you have a WD My Book, which is a desktop HDD, and also 2 other WD drives, right? If they are desktop drives (with an additional AC adapter) as the WD My Book and they all go undetected at StartUp, you should try resolving the issue by re-installing them as devices in Device manager. Manually re-installing the USB hub controller drivers straight from the motherboard manufacturer's official website might also be a good idea.

I'd also strongly recommend you backup all your important data from the externals somewhere else as well and make sure you have a duplicate of your most precious files! This is the surest way to...

If only the hard drives are not visible in Disk Management and Device Manager, then I'd suggest you also check the BIOS. Another thing that could help is resetting BIOS just make sure you re-configure all the manual changes you have made in the interface so far afterwards, because they will all go back to factory defaults.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!
