Why are files getting corrupted on my computer?

Well, it's my 3 years old Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 drive.

I’m getting a lot of corrupt files and every time I restart PC. CHKDSK gets some bad sectors.

What to do? It's out of warranty.

Should I backup and change drive?

I would recommend backing up the drive and changing it, as you said.

If you don't have one, you could always purchase a new one, with it being the sales on right now, you could probably get it cheaper.

That's probably your only choice, you could always do a health check, but its clearly showing signs of dying, due to bad sectors and all.

Hey there, Nin13.

Basically you've answered your own question - backup (as soon as possible) and get a new drive. It seems like this one has accumulated some bad sectors. Unfortunately this process is irreversible and this will continue until the drive insatiably dies. And to make it worse, it's pretty hard, next to impossible, to predict when exactly this is going to happen. It could be days, weeks, months, or even more. One thing is clear - you shouldn't keep important data on that drive.
Once you get your new drive, you could try low level formatting this one, hoping that those sectors will be remapped so that you can try and use it as a storage drive for non-important data.

edit: Well, looks like I was beaten to the answer while I was typing. :)

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Already started with backup. Almost 1.5TB of data usually I get 20-30 MB/S transfer speed but now it almost drops to few KB/S for even larger files.

Thanks.

Good luck, or... break a leg?

Either way, let's hope that drive survives the time it takes to back that up.

Let us know what happens :)
