Specs Asus z97e mobo.
Saphire r9 390 gpu.
I7 4790k cpu.
Eva supernova g2 psu.
16gb ram.

I have tried
Check sleep mode
Different monitor
New cables
Bios update
Driver updates
Temps remain under 40c
Nothing has fixed the issue

The problem occurs 100% randomly when I switched to the new monitor no issues occurred for about a month.

I have tried to recreate the issue to no avail.

When it does go to a black screen the keyboard lights remain lit up. But the caps lock light wont. Also the sound cuts out from any applications that were running at the time.

Anyone have any ideas?

i have enabled the longshot, it is now a waiting game to see if the error occurs. (could be a few days, a few weeks, a few months, i will post a new reply once it happens or im certain it wont happen.)

I never fixed the issue, sorry man. It happens about once a month now and i just live with it.

You could try the long shot (listed above) i think that may have made it happen less often, but im not entirley sure.

I wish you luck in finding a solution!
