Hi guys. im just wondering do i need to change anything to my PC if i upgrade my CPU. i have a
i5-6400 @ 2.70Ghz. Planning to upgrade it to a INTEL CORE I7-6700K (4GHZ).
my Mobo is an MSI B150M BAZOOKA.

Solution
If you have budget for 6700k go for it. Both CPU's have Turbo Boost but 6700k boost higher, when all 4 cores are in use 6700 will be at 3.7 Ghz while 6700k will be at 4.2 Ghz. I think that paying a bit extra is worth in this case, it will be much cheaper to upgrade mobo to z170 or z270 later on if you want to overclock than buying new 6700k and Z170/270 mobo for extra performance. Also if you swap motherboard you can reactive same windows you just need to select in options that you changed hardware.
Nope, it will fit. However, you will not be over to overclock. If you do not want to change your motherboard, step down to the i7-6700 (non -k) and that way you will save money by keeping your motherboard. If you want the K and overclocking, you will need a Z170 motherboard.

which is why i used the word "unless" and the new windows 10 rules still apply for OEM copies that took the free upgrade as well

It will boost to 4 GHz only when only a single core is used. When all the core are put to work it will only boost to 3.7 Ghz.

Also according to rumors, 7700k will be out on somewhere around January 5th which is just a month away. Since Kaby lake can also use z170 motherboard, it might be better of waiting a month for it.

Oh yea one last thing, 6700k comes without stock cooler so it would be nice that you get some cheap tower aftermarket cooler to cool it, something like CM TX3 will be more than enough or you can go CM 212 EVO if you find it cheap.

There will be no performance gains over 6700k since IPC will stay the same it will only use a bit less power and OC a bit higher and ofc it will cost more at start than 6700k.

It has a higher clock speed( 4.2GHz) and a higher turbo boost(4.5Ghz).Since he is on a motherboard which cannot be overclocked, there are some gains for him.

Or he can use the stock cooler of his i5 6400?

Yes there are some gains but he will need to pay even more $$ for it.
6400 comes with weakest intel stock cooler, that is made for 64W CPU and 6700k is 91W max TDP CPU.
He can still use cooler from 6400 but if he can find some cheap tower cooler it would be much better.
