I currently use storage spaces to manage my back up storage which is doing what i want but i have ran out of sata ports on my MB...i figured it time to upgrade to dedicated controller.

Im looking for a decent controller that wont break the bank...I'm thinking under $100 if possible. I currently have the storage spaces set up to a RAID 5 with 4 drives currently connected looking to add a fourth in a few weeks.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I have a used LSI 8888ELP. Its only SATA 2 but for HDD's that is fine and can do all the RAIDs and has Cashe and a BBU. I think i got mine (Without a BBU) for like 30 bucks i think on ebay. Only thing is the BBU is expesive as hell because they are "Smart" Batteries.

But for the most part I am a LSI fan and like their stuff (And also the Dell PERC's which are based off LSI cards)
