USB port recognizing only some devices

I recently got an ASUS UX306UA with Windows 10 and noticed that the USB-3.0 port does not work for all devices. It works for my external mouse as well as my exFAT USB2.0 stick, but it does not work with my Encore Electronics USB hub or my WD My Passport Ultra with USB3.0 and NTFS. The disk manager mentions that the external drive is not initialized, but it throws errors when I attempt to initialize it ("fatal device hardware error" for MRB and "disk too small" for GPT, even though it is 3TB). I tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, but it didn't help.

Both the USB hub and the external drive work fine on my old Windows 10 ASUS UX301LA and my girlfriend's surface pro. Does anybody have an idea how to resolve this issue?

I greatly appreciate any input!

Hi there.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're currently experiencing.

If you value your data, please don't initialize the drive. I'd also advise you to back it up, just to be on the safe side and test the HDD for errors and bad sectors by running both tests (Quick and Extended) of DLG (Data Lifeguard): How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. This is just a cautionary measure, to make sure that there's nothing wrong with the drive.

Other than that you could try updating and/or reinstalling all the drivers associated with the laptop's motherboard, e.g. chipset driver, USB controller driver, etc. to see if that fixes things up.

Please let me know how everything goes.
