Well, it's up to you. Total price difference to drop down to a 6500 and that B150 mobo from the Z170 you have in your pcpartpicker build looks to be ~$60. Relative to the price of your whole build, that's fairly small. But if you're not actually going to overclock, then it's largely wasted.

I have that same processor and use the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII RANGER LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard. Works great! (Oops, had wrong MB, but just edited.)

Well, if you've already decided to get a -k CPU and an aftermarket cooler, I'd say you may as well go ahead and get a Z170 mobo. But no, overclocking is not necessary for good gaming performance. An i5-6500/6600 would work just fine, using the mobo you linked and stock cooler.

I only have the cooler, i did not go through with the cpu purchase yet
