When my server address is "pinged" it will give out my external IP. I have anti-DDOS protection through CloudFlare on my domain. but it proves useless when any remotely intelligent person can ping a server. So my question is how do I stop the ping reply or just mitigate DDOS attacks on my home network entirely? i am soon to get a dedicated IP address and have money to spend on hardware ad or software. Thanks Ollie.

P.S - Running windows on my server.

Unless your server has a public address, the server isn't responding to the pings, your router is. You can usually disable ping response in the user interface of the router.

If a person has your IP address, which if you have a public DDNS or other URL to access your router, then there is nothing that you can do to prevent a DDOS attack. All that has to happen is that the link from your router to your ISP has to be overloaded. Your ISP can mitigate it, but you can't do much.
