I currently have an FX 4130 quad core, and im wanting to upgrade up, to whatever the next best would be.
Here lies my problem though; I have a AM3 socket, and i cant find any processors that are better, that will work for that, without having to get a whole new motherboard and go through all that hassle to get a *AM3+ * socket.
any help is appreciated!!!

Solution

Your motherboard is an am3+ one but it can only support up to the 6 cores due to a power limit.

What are your pc's specs.
I need to know what motherboard you have.

oh, sorry. its an MSI ms-7641 motherboard and ive got a new 750watt power supply coming in.
Graphics card is a GeForce gt 610, but im wanting to upgrade when i find out what im doing with my processor.

The best your motherboard supports is an fx 6350 and to be honest that cpu isn't worth it's money at all anymore and it's also 4 years old already.
The best you can do is either go with a new i3 6100 + motherboard + ram or if you want to keep your ddr3 and don't go ddr4 an older haswell lower end i5 + motherboard. Also of this is a gaming setup and you were to go with the intel cpu's you can just ditch that gt 610 as their integrated gpu's are more powerful than that crappy card.

oh wow, i didn't know that. least i have more options than i previously thought.
got some thinking to do, because i really don't have the money to get a whole new motherboard on top of everything else :/
thank you for your help.

It's better to save up some and get a whole new socket + cpu and such as what you have now is really old already in computer terms. Whilst the fx 6350 will be an upgrade it won't be that amazing of an upgrade and the architecture it is built on is already 4+ years old and upgrading to something that old isn't that great.
