TPM 2.0 compatibility

I want to install a TPM module on my Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H motherboard to encrypt the drives. The supplied specifications don't mention which TPM version is compatible, nor can I find anything online.

Is a TPM 2.0 module backward compatible with a motherboard that only supports 1.2?

Any advice on installing & configuring one?

as far as i know TPM 2.0 is not backward compatible to TPM 1.2, the only backward compatibility i heard is about TMP 1.2 to 1.1b. but as for 2 to 1.2 nope not poassible
