Hi guys,

Recently I built myself my first pc using some old parts I had lying around. the problem is that when I turn on the pc, it gets to the bios screen where I can see the Asus Logo, the cpu fan begins to run a little louder (nothing dangerous I think) and then it restarts and the loop continues. Another thing that happens with this pc is that for some reason there will be no display unless there are 3 or more ram slots occupied. I tried using a kit of 3, it worked, but when I took out one it wouldn't boot. This happens with 3 random ram sticks as well, I put 4 sticks in, take one out and it works, but when there are only 2 sticks in it wont display anything. I dont know if the ram issue is related but Im fairly sure that the ram isn't the issue here as I tested out with different ram sticks and combinations. main issue here is the bios one though as the pc should still function fine with 3 - 4 ram sticks occupying the slots.
Specs:
Asus P7P55 LX (Mobo)
i5 570 (cpu)
Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 kit of 3 6gb (ram)
1gb HD 5850 & Random pcie gpu (Gpu both work)
LP-700AL2NH Thermaltake 700w (PSU)

Thanks in advance

What I meant was; your mother board prefers ram in pairs, if it has an odd number of ram sticks, it will first configure the dual channel from the pair, and then set single channel with the rest of the memory, so technically speaking putting 3 sticks, because of the single channel chip will, and were talking nanoseconds here, be less performant than using 2 or 4 chips on your motherboard.

that for some reason there will be no display unless there are 3 or more ram slots occupied. I tried using a kit of 3, it worked, but when...
your motherboard manual is located at https://www.manualslib.com/manual/548764/Asus-P7p55-Lx-Jooyon-Si.html
your Ram speeds seem to fit the profile of what is acceptable for your board.
The system uses 1 ram sticks at a time so if you have 2 or 4 and it doesn't work, you have a mobo issue

As for why 3 works and not 2 the set you have is a 3 chipset of 2gb matched, I would surmise only using 2 could be problematic
not entirely sure, but rams sells in 1, 2, 3, and 4 sets. not usually a good idea to split 3, and 4 ram stick sets

Accidentally set your answer as solution. When you say 1 ram stick at a time do you mean Im not supposed to use all 4 at once? Everything seems to power on fine, all mobo lights. psu fan works, gpu works.

you pc should be able to hand any combination of 1, 2, 3, or 4 ram sticks plugged in, now are you sure all the ram sticks you are using are the same thing, could you write down the numbers on the sticker of each ram stick you are trying to use (you mentioned random sticks), That the fact your motherboard only starts properly with 3 sticks plugged in, could be a short in the last slot, try to use air can to blow crap out of it ( TURN PC AND UNPLG IT FROM WALL WHEN YOU DO THIS) then try a ramstick in again to see if it will boot up.

Are you able to jump into bios? does it reset when your in Bios ?

If NO reset cmos below in (A) otherwise try (B) first

(A) Have you attempted to clear your Cmos? and reboot afterwards.
procedure at this page https://www.manualslib.com/manual/548764/Asus-P7p55-Lx-Jooyon-Si.html?page=32#manual

(B) put all four sticks of ram in your pc, and then follow the procedure for ram compatibility byu pressing the MEM OK! button on your board : see page https://www.manualslib.com/manual/548764/Asus-P7p55-Lx-Jooyon-Si.html?page=34#manual
if (B) doesn't help goto (A) and rest CMOS
