Hi, just trying to figure out my laptop problem. I saw my cpu temperature goes to 80-90c when playing games and idle temp is around 50-60c. This is happening since i upgraded 4 things.

1. Windows 8.1 to 10

2. 1066MHz RAM to 1333MHz

3. 4gb to 8gb ram

4. Blue WD 500gb hdd to black wd 500gb

So, does anyone of this upgraded had caused the cpu heat issue? Cause i had clean out the dust and apply the thermal paste. This is my laptop spec:

Asus n43sl jay chou edition
I5-2430m
Gt540m
8gb 1333mhz
500gb wd black

Some possible answers. Not enough thermal paste, faulty fan/fan profile, virus. HDD and RAM should have little to no effect on processor heat, more/faster RAM and some HDDs require more processor resources than others, but the worst I've seen is 3 - 5 percent or so CPU utilization. Check your task manager for how busy your processor is, you might just have a ton of stuff running in the background eating your resources up. Don't delete things right off if you don't know what they are, check them and then turn on or off, with laptops, some of the drivers may be proprietary for some of the hardware.

what about BIOS? there is an update according to ASUS site..

What were your temps before? The reason I ask is because those actually look like relatively "normal" temps for a laptop.

And I looked at the model you have, and while it looks like it should have decent cooling, it's still not out of the question that that's just normal for that laptop.

I know this is old but.. if u dont change the mhz setting in the BIOS to match your ram your cpu will overheat. Had the same problem.. had 1866mhz ram and it was set to 1600mhz in the BIOS, changed it and never had another problem.
