Hey all my current processor is an INTEL CORE I5-4690K 3.50 GHZ 6MB INTEL SMART CACHE LG, and I'm looking to upgrade to something beefier, as well as more memory, but that's beside the point. My motherboard (MSI Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION ATX LGA 1150) says that the maximum support is i7. However, I honestly know nothing about cpus so I was wondering if that's true and that I could spend the cash and get the upgrade.

Solution
You want to go to something 'beefier' than the 4690k, but also don't know much about CPU's.
My advise is that any i7 you went to on that DDR3 motherboard really wouldn't be as beefy as you'd hope for.. it's already a very decent performing CPU, and you'd probably want to do a whole new motherboard, cpu, and RAM to get beefy !
Wht graphics card do you have, and what do you like to use the computer for?

I bought this PC last year and was a lot less knowledgeable than I am now, I'm going to upgrade my ram to the max ddr3 capacity that my MB can hold (32 gigs, or maybe I should just go to 16?), I would like a cpu with multiple cores like someone answered above. My GPU is the GTX 980 SC ACX I use my computer for Photoshop, illustrator, and gaming.
